An Update from Skylark

21 January, 2012 (17:34) | News

SkylarkDoobie Brothers touring bassist Skylark (out on health leave since 2010) has issued the following update to the fans:

Doobie fans! Well, it’s been too long since I left my last message here and a lot has happened in that time! My physical therapist – who I affectionately call my physical torturist – continues to help me make strides down the road to recovery. It’s been fascinating, interesting, heart-warming, encouraging, painful, challenging… It’s been all of that and more, but nothing has been more frustrating than not yet being able to sling my bass on and rejoin The Doobie Brothers on stage. (Especially with band playing the new songs from World Gone Crazy! I’d love to be taking part in bringing all of that new music to you!) But it seems that recovery from a stroke – and from what I understand mine was a whopper – happens according to its own schedule, not anyone else’s. In the meantime, I keep my bass within reach as I forge ahead.

Your many cards, messages, and good vibes have meant a lot to me over the months and so, to make it easier for us to keep in touch, I’m creating www.skylark.me. There I will answer all your questions and post frequent updates, including letters and pictures I get from you! So drop in and say “hi”! It’d be great to hear from you!

With love, gratitude, and an eye on “stage right”…

Skylark

It sounds like you are progressing very well. Keep your spirits up and you will be back on stage before you know it. You are missed. I know you would have liked to have been a part of World Gone Crazy. That is some very good music. I wish for you a quick recovery. It won’t be long you will be back on stage again. Take care.

Skylark,
I’m a huge Doobies fan back from the early 70s on ’till today, have played many of the tunes throughout my own career, and have dug many of the ever expanding members along the way. With that, I have to say your contributions, virtuosity, energy and spirit have been a wonderful addition thru the years! I only recently saw that you were not in the touring lineup, and not knowing why, I just assumed you went off to do more solo projects, etc.
So I just found out on FaceBook about an update, went to this link and read the above passages that you had suffered a stroke. God bless, man! That totally sucks to go thru and consider me added to the prayer and good intention list for you.
I certainly hope you rehab quickly and fully, for your own happiness and all that you bring to all of us.
You are an ass kicking musician, bassist, performer, and I along with so many others I’m sure, hope to see you out and about really soon, feeling better than new.
Bless you brother,
Rich

Skylark,
GOD BLESS YOU! I know how you feel, I too had a stroke, and it is an everyday challenge.
YOU will overcome this some of this, but you will never forget it!
Take it one day at a time and dont try rushing recovery as you said it takes it’s own time. Harold

Hey Skylark,

Great new album……but not the same seeing the band live without their high energy bass player with the light up frets, lol. Hope to see you back with the Doobies when they make their next swing into the NY area! Good luck and Godspeed! Keep on Rockin Down That Highway!

Btw, lets get the Doobies into the Rock Hall of Fame!
