The Doobie Brothers’ own John McFee made a special appearance at the recent Comic Con 2011 event, appearing at the Captain America Military Salute at the LMT Music Lodge in San Diego.

This was a unique event, featuring, among other things, appearances by the legendary “Mr. Marvel Comics” Stan Lee, “Captain AmericaChris Evans, a performance by the Army Band, as well as Navy SEAL Foundation presentations and even a magnificent live Bald Eagle named Mr. Lincoln, courtesy of the American Eagle Foundation.

John made a brief speech acknowledging the Doobie Brothers’ long term and ongoing commitment to supporting the men and women of the U.S. military, and then provided the event finale with a performance of a composition of his specially written for the occasion entitled “Age of Innocence”. He says, “I was grateful for the opportunity to be part of this event, and to have a chance to mention the role that our late drummer, Keith Knudsen, played in getting the Doobies back together all those years ago for a truly worthy cause. Keith was inspired by Shad Meshad’s (founder of the National Veterans Foundation) work, and from my perspective our efforts with benefit concerts, charity auctions, and appearances to help our service people really amount to the least we can do.”

John McFee and Stan LeeMcFee was “overwhelmed” by the occasion and opportunity to be involved, and particularly at getting the chance to meet and speak with members from all branches of the military, posing for photos and exchanging stories. Plus he got to meet one of his heroes from a different front, Stan Lee (McFee is a genuine comic book fan), and movie hero Chris Evans, aka the Human Torch from the Fantastic Four movies and currently in a theater near you as Captain America: The First Avenger – check out the photos, and you’ll see a truly stoked John McFee getting his very rare copy of Stan Lee’s 1947 Secrets Behind The Comics autographed…

Great job! Love to see our Troops supported by all of us but especially by people they have a high regard for. Thanks for taking the time to honor them!

Thanks for honoring our service men and women. Remember, San Antonio is Military City, USA. Some of those IED-injured troops there would love to see you guys. Thank you for all you do. Here’s to a great event tonight as well!! Can’t wait.
