EAGLE TO RELEASE THE DOOBIE BROTHERS LIVE AT THE GREEK THEATRE 1982 ON CD & DVD JUNE 28

New York, NY (June 8, 2011)—On June 28, The Doobie Brothers Live At The Greek Theatre 1982 will be released on CD and DVD through Eagle Rock Entertainment. [MSRP $14.98 for DVD, $13.98 for CD].

The rafters of Berkeley, California’s famed Greek Theater shook with rock’n’roll fervor as the final date of the final tour of hometown heroes The Doobie Brothers brought many in the crowd that night to tears. Billed as their “Farewell Tour,” the band, guitarist/vocalist Pat Simmons, keyboardist/vocalist Michael McDonald, drummer Keith Knudsen, guitarist/violinist/harmonica player John McFee, saxophonist/keyboardist/flautist Cornelius Bumpus, drummer/percussionist Chet McCracken, bassist Willie Weeks, and conga player Bob LaKind, pulled out all the stops on a set that revisited their every era.

This incredible night included the surprise return of band co-founder Tom Johnston for the final two numbers. On their biggest hit, “Listen To The Music,” original member John Hartman also joined the band as did former members Tiran Porter and Michael Hossack. It would prove to be the last onstage Doobie Brothers music for five years.

The two-hour 21-track DVD includes five bonus songs cut from the original film of the event:  “Little Darlin’ (I Need You),” “One Step Closer,” “Dependin’ On You,” “Real Love” and “”No Stoppin’ Us Now” as well as interviews with the band and its manager.

Since their self-titled debut in 1971, The Doobie Brothers have released thirteen studio albums, as well as several live albums and “Best Of” compilations. Live At The Greek Theatre 1982 is a welcome addition to their stunning musical repertoire, that captures an unforgettable celebration of their career.

This compilation is lovely, just lovely. I’m working on educating my son and daughter-in-law about the Doobs. They are taking me to the MUSE concert for my birthday. Can’t wait. Eager to see Tommy, Pat, John and Michael. Will Skylark be there too?

Thank you fellas for putting out the CD & DVD. I am ordering both! I had an old VHS copy of the final show at the Greek years ago. These will make great additions to my very thorough Doobies collection!

I’ve been driving around town today with the new CD cranked. It is meant to be played loud! I always felt that the great live show the band put on at this stage of their career, was never captured on CD. The Farewell Tour CD sounded cold & removed. This new live CD captures all the energy & fun of the diverse musical journey the Doobies took us on. The sound is full & warm and the rythm section is a locomotive propelling the band. I was at the Milwaukee & Chicago stops of this tour. The Chicago crowd was enormous (at least 50K). Great memories!

Finally a little closer to getting it right for the fans on the Farewell Tour. Not that I am not happy this show is out (Meaning the greek, Northen CA.), but where is the 2hr + Show, Songs like Keep this train rollin, steamer Lane Breakdown,Echoes Of Love,South City Midnite Lady and Don’t Start Me Talkin, Can’t Let It Get Away and Olana. I know the fans want the entire gig on DVD and a 3 CD or 2 CD set. Rumor has it some of the footage of this show was lost and thats why it has been cut a bit. Why not put the 20 songs and put bonus tracks from other gigs from that tour as bonus tracks, not the songs from the same show. I don’t understand why the five songs where considered bonus tracks, when they were already part of the show. I know those five songs were not on the old 3 lp and Japan import 17 song CD and later Rhino CD. But as a long time fan of the doobies, I would just like to have the complete Farewell Show 28 to 30 songs. But I must say this CD and DVD are awsome and I love it, I just want more. I wouldn’t of paid 60.00 for the Japanese (SH-M Remastered) 2 CD that includes I keep forgettin and No Stoppin Us Now, not on the domestic CD, only on the domestic dvd, Just my thoughts, and hopping the 1987 Reunion show and maybe the complete Santa Barbra show from 1981 are next..Mike

Nice to have this archival release out, (& I’ve bought both the CD & the DVD), even if it covers much the same ground as the old “Farewell Tour” LP/CD. Now that the ice has been broken, how about releasing the legendary 1975 show from the King Biscuit Flower Hour with the Memphis Horns or the 1971 Fillmore West show, with Dave Shogren still in the band, but with John Hartman & Mike Hossack on drums, & featuring live versions of several songs from the first album, as well as a live rendition of “Long Train Running” that predates the studio version by some two years, plus an early live version of Jesus Is Just Alright, along with live versions of songs that otherwise exist only as demos, (Excitement, Four Days Gone), & a never issued jam called Chinese Lick. This was an ok issue, but there are more concerts that are far more interesting & worthy of release. Wolfgang’s Vault features several of them, including that 71 Fillmore West show. I’m sure the band as an entity has even more live stuff to pick from for release. Heck, the S.N.A.C.K. set from 1975 featuring Tommy is available the Vault, as well as the 77 Rainbow Theatre set from England. Let’s hear more of the vintage live stuff!!
