New York Post “Grammy Grabs” Names “World Gone Crazy” Album Of The Year

29 September, 2010 (14:36) | News

Dan Aquilante of The New York Post writes:

With more than 20 albums out today, many by A-list artists, it’s Super CD Tuesday. Why? Because this is the last release week for an album to be eligible for a Grammy nomination.

So in salute to music’s procrastinators, the Grammy might go to . . .

Album of the Year: the Doobie Brothers, “World Gone Crazy.”

This is a fantastic album! Tell all your friends to buy a copy………or buy one for them. The Targets and Best Buys in La Crosse, Winona, Red Wing and Hudson were sold out. We finally got the album. Now its time for us to do our part.

World Gone Crazy = Album of the Year, right on!! Saying that Brotherhood and Siblling Rivalry are ‘musically weak’…I think this reviewer needs to tune his ears a little more.

My deluxe edition rolled in today thanks to Mr. UPS and WOW…”World Gone Crazy” was certainly worth the wait! This is easily the best total package the Doobies have turned out maybe since the mid-to-late 70s! In fact, it may just be THE best to date. Great job, Guys! (By the way, your concert with Chicago this summer was awesome! Thank you!)

Wow WGC is a perfect continuation for the Ted Templeman era! Chateau and Don’t Say Goodbye constantly are going through my head after just a couple of listens! Look for Melodic Rock Concerts to give away a World Gone Crazy cd on our website.

It’s about time that Great Music by Great Musicians finally get recognized. I knew 40 years ago that this band “Had It”. Hooked ever since Long Train Runnin and the sound of the band is still solid. Love the new CD – every track is solid. Love Tommy’s jammin, rockin sound and Pat’s mellow finger pickin sound – Can’t get enough and have been playing it so much that I got one for home and one for the car. I know you guys will be traveling to Europe – be safe, have a ball and show them that USA bands rock the best. Can’t wait to see you at Westbury NY in November. Thank you for all the years of great music – Love you guys – Angela “RoadAngel” from Brooklyn, NY xoxox

OK, finally got a chance to listen to WGC tonight (been a crazy week – who’d have thought). Two comments: 1) Awesome, and 2) Thank You! Loved the music and the retrospective DVD was great to watch.

I’m going to really push my band mates here in Salt Lake City to add “Nobody” to our play list.

I have listened to this albumn several times now. Firstly, I admit being a Doobie fan gong back to the early seventies, hence I am wary that my objectivity may be biased. However, like many of you I suspect, we expect and set very high standards to come from the Doobies. Well my appraisal of WGC is that it is a great piece of musical work. What amazes me is that this group of musicians can deliver such a diversity of musical genres, and execute them with such finess. The vocals, instrumentals, arrangments and overall production deserve the highest praise. World Gone Crazy deserves and should be garnered with that very rare title of “Classic Albumn”.

Just arrived home from Hawaii. Been listening since Tuesday while driving around. Fits right in on the Islands, or anywhere else for that matter. The Doobies are proud of this recording, and so am I. Very impressed with the live performance from Cisco. WOW. I could’nt wait for Sibling Rivalry to be released , and while I hear echoes from that C.D. on this release, WGC is far superior top to bottom, in my opinion.

WGC is great! I love “My Baby”. Great Tune. My wife thought “far from home” would make a great video. She said, sounds like sending the kids off to school, then college. Might be a great video idea for CMT?

It’s growing on me. They did Chateau and Nobody live two years ago in a small casino in Dubuque, IA. I am warming up to it. Really want to see the new tunes live soon. The title track is solid, in fact the first four tracks are stellar. Might have to go south and catch one of the FL shows.

CD released a week later in UK so just got my copy this week, well worth the wait. To me the big difference between this and last few albums is that all songs are written by either Pat or Tom and the way their two writting styles complement each other is what has made the Doobies so great over all these years. Hence a 1st class album which deserves every award there is out there. A popular day time DJ on BBC Radio is playing it as his album of the week from Oct 11th to 15th so the whole nation will get to hear how good it sounds. See you guys at Wolverhamton Oct 31st, Keep on Rockin Down the Highway!

Back to the Chateau provides the taste of Doobies old. The more I hear the studio version of this, the more it ROCKS! I really hope the duet with Willie Nelson somehow finds its way to the country western side of the market. Great song and Pat and Willie cinch it!
