MOBILE FIDELITY SOUND LAB ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF THREE CLASSIC DOOBIE BROTHERS ALBUMS ON REMASTERED HYBRID SACD

LEADING AUDIOPHILE LABEL CONTINUES RESTORATION OF BAND’S CATALOG

MAY 25, 2010 – Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab continues its restoration of the Doobie Brothers’ classic catalog with the numbered limited-edition hybrid SACD release of Takin’ It to the Streets, the mellow 1976 album featuring former Steely Dan collaborators Jeff “Skunk” Baxter and Michael McDonald. Mastered from the original master tapes, the disc captures the nuances of the splendid interplay between the band members, the brassiness of the Memphis Horns section, and dynamic extremes of the frequency ranges.

Takin’ It to the Streets arrives after the recent release of the legendary rock band’s Toulouse Street and The Captain and Me on the same format. By allowing listeners to hear into the music like never before, and standing as the first Doobie Brothers reissues sourced directly from the original master tapes, all three Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab albums are essential for fans new and old. No audience has ever experienced the Doobie Brothers’ music in a more intimate, transparent, organic, or lively manner.

Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab has been the undisputed pioneer and leader in audiophile recordings since the company’s inception in 1977. Established by dedicated audiophiles, Mobile Fidelity’s first and foremost goal was to offer faithfully reproduced high-fidelity recordings that would complement the numerous advances occurring in audio delivery systems. Throughout its history, Mobile Fidelity has remained true to this goal, and continues to develop state-of-the-art technologies and set audiophile standards.

The label prides itself on reissues sourced exclusively from the original master tapes. Titles are individually numbered and limited, ensuring immediate collectable status. In addition to the Doobie Brothers titles, recent Mobile Fidelity releases include landmark albums from Yes, Curtis Mayfield, The Cars, The Band, Linda Ronstadt, and Ray Charles.

Vinyl still rules. After comparing several cd’s of the Doobies to original vinyl releases there is no comparison. “licorice pizza” produces the music as it sounds, while the digital cd format attempts but fails to deliver all instruments and the sounds they make.

If you’re a vinyl enthusiast, you really need to check out SACD. It is the digital format that delivers on the original promise of CDs.

It’s too bad that they didn’t include any concerts, videos, or interviews with each release, like Genesis recently did with their entire catalogue.
