York Daily Record Doobies Article/Interview
Check out this cool article/interview in the York Daily Record. Pat Simmons discusses the new album in progress and the current Summer tour with Chicago, among other things. Check out the excerpts from Pat’s interview below or read the full article here.
About the album:
“We’ve done a couple of sessions with Ted [Templeman, longtime Doobie Brothers producer - ed.], just really getting used to each other again … We hadn’t done anything with Ted for such a long time. I think that’s kind of the way it’s going to be with Bob, too, just kind of go in and get our feet wet a little bit with each other, get to know each other and stuff. But we’re looking forward to it.”
About the tour:
“We always pretty much do a lot of the songs that people have come to hear, the hits and stuff… That’s always part of the bargain. When you’re out there, people want to hear the songs that they grew up with and that they’re familiar with. Then we kind of sprinkle it with songs that we like to do, basically stuff that we’ve done through the years that maybe they weren’t hits, but they’re kind of things that we’ve enjoyed playing. We’re always kind of digging something out of the archives that we’ve never done before or haven’t done before or we haven’t done for years and years.”

In my opinion this is the best rock band in the history of rock music! This is my most favorite rock band of all time!!! I really look forward to hearing the new material when it is released!!! Going back with Ted Templeman means the new recording should be a great recording like ” Stampede” or “What were once vices now habits” and ” Captain and Me” albums. Thank you to all current and former band members! I feel that the Doobie Brothers has produced the best music in my lifetime! Thank you for all of the great music and shows! I am a fan for life!!!

Saw the band a few years ago now, outdoor venue, warm summer evening. Perfect setting for a Doobies concert. Really wish the band would make it back to the Upper Midwest (Dakotas, Minnesota) sometime again soon. With gas at $4 a gallon and rising, I’m not traipsing all over the country to see a show, but I could use another live dose of the best rock-n-roll party music around! Keep rocking, and hope to see you soon!

Everybody loves the Doobies!! Especially me! It’s great to know another great album is on the horizon. Just one question though – only 1 stop in the Southeast with Chicago??? What’s up with that?? There ain’t but about umpteen million hurtin’ Carolinians around here. Peace…

I can’t wait to hear the new stuff being worked on now. i have been a huge Doobie fan for over 30 years and i find many of todays groups can’t hold a candle to the music put out by the Doobies.
i enjoy nothing more then a cold beer and the music of the Doobie brothers. Hopefully this is your year guys and and with the exciting news of a new album how nice would it be to be entered in to the rock and Roll hall of fame.
As i sit here with baited breath on the new release i want you all to know that here in Southern ontario Canada i am going through my worst Doobie withdrawl seeing as we missed the 2008 tour. in saying that i know we will see you in 2009 and please please please play slow Burn when you come awsome tune.
Thanks Guys enjoy your summer

Just saw you guys with Chicago @Chastain Amphitheater in Hotlanta and you guys absolutely KICKED ASS.
If there was a battle of the bands tonight y’all won hands down. Chicago was a little soft rock for us, but when you came back and played Taking it to the Streets, my wife went absolutley nuts.
Thanks for a great show (the best one in the last 3 years), but next time PLEASE be the headliner so that you can play more.
Have a great rest of the tour and hope to see y’all next year.

I was at Chastain JUST to see the Doobie Brothers…saw you in Sturgis in ‘89…you have not slowed down…please come back this way soon…at 64 I may not have too many more chances to hear your great music live…was more than worth the 300 mile RT and the price of the front row box seat…I’ll always be “listening to the Music”…usually on my Ultra…Thanks for almost 40 years of great music…Wishing you good health and Ride Free…..Gary Smith Easley SC easyrider@charter.net

Saw the Doobies and Chicago last night at Bethel Woods. It was a great 3 hour show ending with the two super-groups getting together for three house-rocking songs to end the night. It was great to see guys up on stage having a great time and transferring that enthusiasm to the crowd. The last three songs were greeted by a standing, rocking jubilant crowd. Thanks for a great evening

I just saw the Doobies at Mohegan Sun in CT, I brought my fiance who was not really a fan prior to the show, but she is now!!! The guys rocked the joint!!! The energy was amazing, it was one of the best shows I have ever been to. When the band rejoined Chicago on the stage after their set, 16 amazing musicians were playing there hearts out you could feel something special going on deep down in your soul!! I just want to thank the band for one of the GREATEST 4th of Julys ever!!!

I saw the Doobie Brothers with Chicago in Saratoga, N.Y. Thursday evening July 3rd. WOW! I had seen the Doobies while on one of many farewell tours in the early 80’s; this my friends is not the same band at all. Impressive to say the least this band worked hard for the crowd, played the hits and sounded great. Even as impressive as the set was more impressive was when both bands came on together at the end. They sounded great together and the audience was the winners. thank you, for a great show!!

We saw the Doobie Brothers in Atlantic City this year, and I could not take my eyes off of Skylark ………very charismatic! the concert was one of the best I have attended ever;it would be very nice if the band would tour solo, they don’t need anyone else on the bill.

Sawyour show last week in Wabash, IN. I’ve loved you guys from day one. (Still got that Superman shirt Pat?) I appreciate all the energy you’ve given me. I guess I’ve run four or five thousand miles with you in my ears, but look. All you did last week was slam us! Yes you were loud enough Pat. Could only here bass and noise. All the subtle things lost. Look at the crowd. Old guys like me. How about a different set list for IN? You have wonderful choices. Spirit! Rainy Day C.R.B. How about some stuff from the solo alblums Tom? Show Me. Or, Outlaw. Wonderful song, few people ever heard it. Forget the title. Baby take me in, rock me in your arms. Most beautiful acoustic intro I’ve ever heard. We need a mix! And we want to hear it! I’m sorry, but I don’t think you felt well that night Pat. I do appreciate you still going, and I don’t mean to complain. I just want yourbest. Thanks. Dr D

Saw concert at Jnnes Beach back in June. Enjoyed Chicago but the Doobies “rocked the house” – I have been a fan since I first heard “Long Train Runnin” all those years ago. The band is awesome – To Tommy and Pat who have rocked all these years “I love you guys” – great musicians!!! Your music has gotten me though some rough times. Thank you for all the great music – all these years and for many years to come. Looking forward to the new album. Best Band ever and a forever fan – Lots of Love, “RoadAngel”

I am very excited to see the band has hooked back up with Templeman it would be nice to see the 2 work their majic again.
The current group of guys are extreamly tight and i look forward to hearing the new album.
The band has clearly stood the test of time and i for one continue to put the Doobies at the top of my list in terms of a band that has been influential to me.
Thanks Andrew
