Pirates!

12 July, 2007 (02:32) | News

The Simmons family made a visit to the set during the recent filming of “The Pirates Of The Caribbean – At World’s End“. This came at the invitation of their old friend, Lee Arenburg, who has a feature roll as Pintel in the pirate saga. Lee and his lovely girlfriend Katie gave us the royal treatment. We were introduced to Lee’s partner in the film Mackenzie Crook, who plays Ragetti, and Marty Klebba another unforgettable character. Such nice guys and so much talent. It was an amazing experience we will never forget. We’ve already seen the movie twice and loved it! Thanks Lee. Thanks to Cris Simmons (my wife) for taking the snapshot. Oh yeah, I just found out, Lee and Katie are expecting their first child. What a wonderful surprise! Congratulations to the Arenberg family from all your Doobie Uncles!

Just came back from Vegas where 26 of our friends went to your concert to celebrate my husbands 50th birthday. The concert was amazing and we hope that you keep on playing. We all had so much fun we decided that as soon as you announce next years concert schedule we are going to pick a place to go see you. My daughter turns 25 next year and she decided that she wants to re-enact this party. You guys were a blast from start to finish sounding better than ever. We especially liked when the young kid played at the end giving us hope that the Doobies will be around for a long time.

Hello TJ, Pat and the band,
I saw the show in Pigeon Forge Tennessee recently and really enjoyed the concert! It was really cool to hear you all play ‘Double Dealin Four Flusher’ from the Stampede Album at that show! Really, Really Cool Song! If I could request a song for future shows, Please play the title cut to the ‘Captain and Me’! The banjo influence in that song is really incredible! Thanks for all of the years of Fantastic Music! You all are the best musicians ever in my opinion! Thanks so much for the great songs and shows! Please bring your tour to Charlotte, NC sometime!

Best Regards,

Bill Davison

Funny how the greatest songs never made their way to mainstream radio. Ukiah crossfading into The Captain and Me are still my most listened to for 25+ years now. The bells on Captain & Me mixed with the acoustic guitar and all around vocals make the ultimate way to close out a record :)

Pat…we used to hang out with some of the same girls in Santa Cruz. Remember Theresa and Bunny from Pacific Trading Co.? I was going out with Bunny, you dated Theresa’s sister. I will be at your appearance in Pullman, WA with my daughter at WSU for Dads weekend. Celebrating the Big-60 birthday. It will be good to see you again. Those days in Santa Cruz in the 70′s were so much fun. It would be great to say Hi when you are in Washington.
Thanks Pat.

I got to see you in Houston last night. What a wonderful show and had 2nd row. I want to personally thank you as 2007 has been avery difficult year and you made it a little brighter. Also, I’d like to thank Paqt Simmons for coming out after the show and autographing my ticket, and having his picture taken with me. You dont realize how good that made me feel…

New studio set and DVD…the anticipation is killin’ me. Do I reserve some space in my Christmas stocking?
Can anyone offer even a morsel of information to relieve my anxious disposition.

We’re looking forward to your return visit to Washington. What a great treat. Pat, you’ll be within spittin’ distance of your stomping grounds in Aberdeen. I trust there will be a good turnout from your old hometown. Can’t wait to hear the hits keep rollin’.

Hi Pat,
I’ve never met you, but we are 1st cousins. Your Dad Roy was my Dad’s brother. My sister Joanne gave me tickets to your concert at Little Creek for my 59th birthday (October 8) and my husband and I will be there. I just found out that another 1st cousin and her husband will be there too. Her name is Michelle Parks, and she is the daughter of your uncle Pat Simmons. I will be meeting her for the first time at your performance. Neither of us grew up knowing our fathers’ family. If you are at all interested in getting together with family in Washington, we would love to hear from you. We will be in Shelton early afternoon Friday. If you want to meet us pleas email me. Hope to meet you at some point either here or in Hawaii where we have a condo.

Saw your show last night at the Little-Creek venue. Good to see a ya’ll can still ‘Rock-The-House’, but I hope the sound system was a house syetem and not yours. The harmonies were great but individual vocals seemed ‘muddy’ or non-existant at times (result of the end of a long tour-or bad mix?) sorry guy’s but have to let you know. Having run live sound systems (from the club circuit to outdoor shows) I may be a little too critical, but when the vocals are continually drowned out by the drums its time to adjust the mix. There were times I wish people weren’t so caught up in the ‘excitement praise’ of the show and let the group know when it just ‘wasn’t right’. Just my opinion, but the area I was in started to lose fans about halfway through your set.

I heard John McFee played SF recently in a Clover show. That sounds cool. Sorry I missed it.

Happy Birthday Pat. I’ve been a fan since living in the Bay Area since the 70′s. My family and I caught your last show in Vegas and just want more. Waiting for another video to play over and over. Love seeing interviews and photos of you and your family. I would love to go to B.R. Cohn festival next year with my girlfriends. My dream is to one day meet you and your wife, you guys seem so cool. Thank you for all the music and for making me feel alive and happy.
